Identify Problems and Take Action for Solutions: Prime Minister Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held a virtual meeting with the Chief Ministers of all seven provinces to discuss service delivery, good governance, overall progress, existing challenges, and the necessary facilitation by the federal government.

This was the first such interaction conducted by the Prime Minister from the "Action Room" of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar. During the two-and-a-half-hour-long discussion, PM Oli emphasized the need for one-on-one discussions with the Chief Ministers. He assured that further discussions would take place while preparing the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

The Prime Minister stated that he would personally visit the provinces and even attend some provincial assembly sessions to discuss national development. He emphasized identifying issues and taking concrete actions to address them.

In the current era of information and technology, PM Oli suggested that Chief Ministers utilize technology to conduct discussions at the district level and on specific projects. He recalled that during his previous tenure as Prime Minister, he had initiated project monitoring and discussions from the Action Room in Singha Durbar, and he expressed his commitment to further enhancing its use.

Regarding education, PM Oli pointed out that only 48% of students pass the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) and mentioned that he had started offering additional online classes in core subjects with the help of some youths. He informed that 57,000 students had participated in these online classes.

Urging the Chief Ministers to start preparations for the upcoming year, PM Oli stressed the importance of education as a foundation for development. He reiterated that, as part of the Digital Nepal initiative, technology should be utilized in healthcare and other sectors to benefit the people.

During the discussion, the Chief Ministers expressed their gratitude for the dialogue and informed the Prime Minister about the physical and financial progress achieved in the current fiscal year, as well as the existing challenges and possible solutions.

They suggested the continuation of budget allocation for multi-year contract projects, an increase in grant funding, ease in land acquisition and tree-cutting processes for project implementation, additional budget allocation for disaster management, improvement in human resource management, stricter control over smuggling at customs, faster completion of road expansion projects to establish Gandaki as a tourism hub, resolution of land compensation disputes for the East-West railway project, reconsideration of work expansion, and facilitation for tourism and income growth in the provinces.

Nepal Government's Chief Secretary, Ek Narayan Aryal, assured that the issues raised by the Chief Ministers would be discussed in the federal cabinet meeting and the meeting of Nepal government secretaries for necessary resolutions.

The discussion was attended by the Prime Minister's Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic Advisor Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, and other senior officials.
